With its familiar Medium V neck profile, easy, even action across an inlaid ebony fingerboard, and the vibrant, balanced projection of a 13.5" maple resonator paired with a Tubaphone tone ring, this increasingly rare Boston-built 1925 Vega Tubaphone #3 11" Plectrum Resonator Banjo has weathered nearly 100 years of consistent use in remarkable condition, its tasteful heel and headstock decoration a beautiful nod to the top-tier Vega craft of this era. With the added clarity and sustain of a 27" scale and included fitted Golden Gate hard case, this one might just have another century of songs to go.
Notes:
This 1925 Vega Tubaphone #3 11" Plectrum Resonator Banjo is in Very Good condition, part of a climate-controlled collection, with light visible wear consistent with nearly 100 year age and appropriate live and recorded use, including a ding in neck behind 5th fret (pictured), a few stable cracks in binding (pictured), and minimal metal burnishing from normal playing. Most notably, a shallow wood crack across the carved heel has been professionally repaired and glued at some point in this instrument's life (fully stable, pictured). Tailpiece is era-correct Kerschner by Lyon & Healy (Chicago). Head is vintage, but not original. Bridge is Grover, includes additional bridges (pictured), and original tensioning key. Includes Golden Gate hard case with some lifting padding at bottom (pictured), does not affect functionality.
All instruments from the Old Town School Music Store are professionally inspected and set-up before shipping, and directly support the missions, programs, and continued growth of the Old Town School of Folk Music.
